If a friend did that to me, I would have one less friend. He just used your friendship and you. Cut the asshole and his gold digger wife loose. There are deals to be done and there are friends out there that you haven't met yet.

Your friend hasn't got a clue what he is doing. Not only will the listing broker get paid the whole commission your friend will overpay and will not be represented. He is stupid in his reasoning.
I really think, unfortunately, that he is not someone to be friends with. Self involved, cares not about you and who needs him.

I had a friend that did something similar. Although I never actually took him to places (b/c he opted for drive-bys and random showings with the listing agent - although I offered multiple times), and always jumped to give him as much information as I had available. Sent the listings, did some research on properties of interest, etc. One day he IMs me (not a call, not in person) and says "I bought a house". I have spoken to him only a few times since then (its been almost two years now). Although I was not happy with his decision, it makes me feel better knowing that he likely paid too much b/c the agent he used was chasing the commission, rather than looking out for him.
